For years I heard people talk about hearing from God yet I couldn’t seem to hear from Him (although I faked it as if I did). I didn’t want to look unspiritual and after all everyone else was seemingly hearing from Him perfectly fine. When I faced a crisis in my life I prayed and asked God for guidance other than that my conversations with Him were very limited. I did the “work” of God far sooner than I had a relationship with Him. Doing the work of God got me recognized and after all that was satisfying me temporarily. But it never was fulfilling past the temporary praise , I was still empty and still wondering why I couldn’t hear from Him when I prayed and asked for guidance when making the important decisions in my life. It was when I was facing insurmountable trouble that I turned to God and began to learn how to hear from Him.
2 Chronicles 15:4 MSG But when they were in trouble and got serious, and decided to seek God, the God of Israel, God let himself be found.
When we truly search for Him, He will let Himself be found. So how do we search for Him? Spending time in God’s word and in prayer. I started with a few minutes most every day (not every day) and as time went on I wanted my time with Him to be more. I was no longer satisfied with five minutes a day. But I am so glad that God meets us where we are! He walks with us as we mature. My challenge to you if you are wanting to hear from God but feel like that is for the “more spiritual”, start where you are, download the Bible app on your phone and read His word a few minutes a day and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal Himself. When praying, begin with the Lord’s prayer and just talk to God as if you were talking to a good friend. He will meet you where you are. You just wait, if you truly search for Him, He will be found.
